About Caddy for Daddy

Currently in its pre-launch phase, Caddy for Daddy is a companion service for recreational golfers with diagnosed/undiagnosed Dementia (Clinical Dementia Rating between 0/0.5 absent/questionable – 1 mild), or experiencing loneliness, isolation or lack of resources. The player should have previous golfing experience and possess the necessary physical abilities to complete a nine-hole round, along with the mental and social capacity to interact with a volunteer caddie.

Each caddie participating in the Caddy for Daddy program has completed the essentiALZ® training from the Alzheimer’s Association* and acknowledges that their responsibility is for the wellbeing of the golfer and communicating with the caregiver.

Although we have not official launched the program, we are diligently working to make make it the best it can be. If you would like to help us by testing out a round, please email caddyfordaddygolf@gmail.com.

Let's play

I wanted to share how much Caddy for Daddy has meant to my husband Jack and me. I met Josh Greenblatt at an event at the Salisbury Center on Aging, and when he explained his service, I thought right away it could be a good fit for Jack.

Jack is 80 and has Alzheimer’s. He used to love golf, but we figured those days were behind him. Caddy for Daddy gave him a chance to get back out there, and since then, they’ve golfed several times. It’s been a real bright spot for Jack — and a godsend of break for me!

Caddy for Daddy has made a big difference for our family, and I’m truly grateful for it.

How it started

This idea was born out of my experience with my own father. For years, we played golf together. We have a great relationship, with many of our fondest memories made on the golf course. I'll never forgive him for sinking that 60' putt on the 72 hole of a weekend trip to Florida to beat me by one hole!

In recent years his memory and capacity to play golf on his own has diminished. When I do play with him, I see improved mood, decreased anxiety, and an overall uplift of his psychological and emotional well-being. My vision is for Caddy for Daddy is to provide a service for all golfers (and to potentially extend beyond golf) in this demographic as it has numerous health benefits for the individual. It also offers their loved ones a break from caregiving responsibilities which is equally as important and beneficial for all.
